What Is The Chaplain's Auxiliary?
The Lutheran Chaplain's Auxiliary is a ministry which responds to the Lord's
command in
Matthew 25:34-40:
"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by
my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the
creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I
was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you
invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was in prison and you
came to visit me.'
Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and
feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a
stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we
see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?'
The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the
least of these brothers of
mine, you did for me.' "
The Chaplain's Auxiliary is made up of ladies from all the area Lutheran
churches in Wichita and surrounding communities. Monetary support is by
free-will offering and is used to promote the work of the Auxiliary which
assists the Chaplain in his work in area hospitals, care homes, jails, and
boys and girls detention centers. Meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday
of every other month in one of the area churches that serves as host.
Meetings include speakers who share with us social and specialized ministry.
If you have questions, or would like to join us, please contact Phyllis
Arehart. We ask for your prayers and support to help us continue
this vital ministry of caring for others.
Do you have a desire to help others who are in need? Do you enjoy
visiting the elderly in care homes or the disabled who need someone to just
care about them? Would you like to use your sewing or knitting abilities to
bless persons who might need a small blanket or pair of bed socks? Do you
sense God uses you to encourage others who face challenging circumstances?
If you have answered “yes” to any of these questions, you might find it
fulfilling to get involved with the Chaplains Auxiliary.
This group of dedicated members of a
number of Lutheran churches in the greater Wichita area are active in works
of compassion for those who are in need. Some visit care home residents,
others help assemble hygiene packets for local homeless shelters, others
will deliver supplies for use at area homes for unwed mothers or school
packs for children in low income families, while others still use their
sewing skills to make the supplies that are used.
While it is not necessary to attend, the
group meets every other month in one of the area churches that serves as
host. Chaplain Rocky Mease keeps the group informed of what is happening in
the area hospital ministries and other ministries as well. Our congregation
hosted this month’s meeting with a luncheon potluck
If you would like to become involved to
any degree, or would like to just find out more about the group, contact
Phyllis Arehart
or speak with Pastor Einem. More participants
are always needed and welcome.
